About Navarino:
Navarino offers a walkable neighborhood with sidewalks and tree-lined streets. Many of the streets have Linden trees which bloom in mid-June and fill the air with a clean citrus-smelling aroma. There is easy access to the area's recreational trails popular during the warmer months. Navarino offers some of the best home values in the Green Bay Area. Navarino is an older neighborhood that is in transistion with apartment houses being converted back to single-family dwellings. There are also many vacant lots that are ready for building new homes on. Many of these lots are owned by the Green Bay Redevelopment Authority and are available for purchase through the New Homes in Your Neighborhood Program.

Do you prefer fresh, local produce? Do you want to support local farmers and benefit the community? Would you like to see a full-service grocery store in downtown Green Bay? A local food cooperative called New Leaf Market is being established to accomplish these goals.
In August 2008, Green Bay’s Economic Development Department, the UW-Extension, and Downtown Green Bay, Inc. embarked on the Downtown Food Project. The objectives of the project included
- Improving access to healthy food
- Incubating local food enterprises
- Building infrastructure to connect local growers to a customer base
- Educating people about the links between access to healthy food, expanding local food enterprises, a thriving community and sustainable resources
Since then, an interim board of directors and volunteers have been working hard to make a local food cooperative possible in downtown Green Bay. They have written a mission statement and bylaws, filed articles of incorporation, and created a logo, brochure, and web site.
A press conference was held on October 9 to kick off the membership drive for New Leaf Market. People who invest now will be founding members and will help to ensure that a local food market becomes a reality. In order to secure a loan for a building, the cooperative must have at least 1,000 members. All members will receive discounts, have voting rights, be eligible to run for the board, and may earn refunds once the store becomes profitable.
If you are interested in supporting local growers and producers, eating fresh, local food, and strengthening the Green Bay community, please consider becoming a member today.
